A ‘Family Fun Night of Bingo’ will be held at Freshwater Grange, 48 Grange Road, Freshwater on Friday.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to dress as their favorite 1980s icon or character.

Bingo buy-ins are $5 and extra cards are $3. Prizes will be awarded for bingo and the costume contest.

Swamp Tower

The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided excursion to Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

October often brings many migrants including sanderlings, sandpipers, other wading birds and ducks. Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Bill Rodstrom at the end of South I Street (Lake Klopp) in Arcata for views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails, and a great diversity of birdlife.

Walk around the swamp

Friends of Arcata Swamp is sponsoring a free tour of Arcata Swamp and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.

Meet Chef Paul Johnson at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk, rain or shine. Masks are recommended but not required inside the building, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

Bingo games are played every Tuesday at Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. A snack is available.

Literacy Day

The Humboldt Literacy Project and Eureka Main Library announce the return of “Family Literacy Parties” live Wednesday, October 26 at 6 p.m. at the Eureka Library, 1313 Third St., Eureka.

Children and the adults who love them are invited to enjoy an evening that begins with crafts led by Library Fairy Shoshanna, followed by spooky tales by local storyteller Ross Mackinney.

Each child present can choose their own free book to keep.

Since 1981, the Humboldt Literacy Project has offered free, confidential English lessons with programs for native English speakers, English as a second language, and family literacy. Family literacy parties aim to bring together adults and children around the pleasure of language and stories.

The 10th Annual Fig Twig Holiday Market will be held November 11-12 at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, 3750 Harris St., Eureka.

Hours of operation are Nov. 11 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 on November 11 and $3 on November 12. Free gift bags will be given to the first 50 buyers on November 11.

This year’s event features more than 65 vendors, as well as craft cocktails, beer or wine, and various catering options.

Pre-sale tickets for the Friday Market will be available Nov. 6 from 6-9 p.m. at The Art of Hair Studio in Old Town Eureka. Tickets will also be available at the entrance.
