With a new month comes new library programs and Madison and Ridgeland Libraries have a lot planned.
Beginning this month through the 15th, the Madison Library will host a food drive to benefit Madison Countians Allied Against Poverty (MadCAAP). This will be the second year they have done so. Non-perishable food products such as canned goods and dry goods are in demand.
“We will deliver donated items in time for Thanksgiving distribution to families in need,” said Madison branch manager Tammie Terry.
In honor of Election Day on November 8, the city’s youth will have the opportunity to learn about the election and hold one at 10 a.m. during the Story Time Stars panel.
On November 12 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., patrons ages 5 and up can participate in making mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags.
“It’s a great way to help others and rack up volunteer hours,” said Terry.
On November 16, the library will host a Thanksgiving Bingo for adults at 10 a.m. Prizes will be available.
The Madison Library has also partnered with Webster Animal Shelter to highlight pets that are up for adoption each week.
“A new video will be posted to the Madison County Library and Webster Facebook pages on Tuesday at 4 p.m.,” Terry said. “Tune in to see these adorable fur babies who need to find their forever home!
Ridgeland Library branch manager Kristen Hillman said they had a busy October with many events and November would be no different.
“We’re looking to have a fun offering of programs for November and a holiday craft market in December that we’re very excited about,” Hillman said. “I’m very excited for our leftovers in the Library Sharing Contest, as it will be great to see all the amazing covered dishes our entrants will whip up for a chance to win the Golden Whisk trophy for their category.”
The competition categories are starters and side dishes, main courses and desserts. A winner of the highest overall ranking will also be chosen from the entire competition. To enter, entrants must bring a covered dish that matches one of the categories to the library by November 22 by 3:30 p.m. Judging of the giveaway will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Ridgeland Library.
“We invite the public to sample some of the tasty dishes featured in our Potluck contest as well,” Hillman said. “If possible, bring a recipe, so we can add it to our collection of recipes at the library, which will showcase all the local flavors in our community!
