The 4th of July launch party will take place on Thursday

Wow there is a lot going on this weekend, I know people are getting ready for the 4th of July but get out there this weekend and enjoy the weather and some of the unique and fun things that are happening. Enjoy the beaches or the rivers this weekend. With good weather, the water should warm up. The Farmers Market is held at the Wagoner Community Center on Saturday morning. There is the famous Flea Roast Beef Market Festival in Irons all weekend. There’s also a fun event at Rocket Park on Saturdays, there’s Pride in the Park. Come support and celebrate our LGBTQ+ community. There will be music, food and fun and the community is invited. There’s so much going on that I’m sure you can find something fun to do.

Looks like everyone loved Top Gun for our Popcorn & Movie day on Tuesday. The Vogue Theater is a wonderful gem in Manistee. It’s really nice to go to the show on these hot days and relax. We also did Lunch and Produce Bingo in Copemish. We’re partnering with Benzie Senior Resources for this fun day. With the cost of gas, a lot of people can’t afford to come to us, so we go to them. Thank you to everyone who came and shared a fun day with all of us. We also had our first mystery trip of the year. We had a great time. I don’t think I duplicated anything from the past. With the costs of everything, I’m getting more limited, but I think everyone had a great time.

Well, we ran out of Project FRESH coupons for the first time that I can remember, so they’re on order and we’ll let you know when we have more. We had more people at our food bank than we have had since COVID and the lockdown. I can’t remember how many people we serve due to the rising costs of everything. If you’re struggling to choose between food and something else that’s important, you’re not alone. There are so many people of all ages going through a tough time. Don’t forget that we have an emergency food program for the elderly.

We’re getting ready for the 4th of July party kick-off party this Thursday. We still have tickets if you want to have a great meal by Jerry Zupin Catering, and music by Butch Baker and the Just 4 Fun Band. There will be lots of dancing and fun! We hope to see you there!

Next month we are taking a bus to Cadillac for Senior Appreciation Day. They will have workshops that include Drums Alive, Spark in the Dark, Estate Planning 101, Air Fryer Cooking, Crafting with Cardinal Creations, Senior Single Mingle and a tea party with the Herb Society. There will be music, a delicious catered lunch and a Style Show. If that sounds like fun, call and sign up. We also have a Flower Show in Onekama which we will be going to in July.

If you’re looking for a way to give back to your community, there are so many places that could use volunteers. If you enjoy working with older people and have time to offer, we would love for you to come and lend a hand. I’m sure we can find something you’d like to do. Stop by for a volunteer request.

I hope you are having a wonderful week and don’t forget to try something new!
