The African Vision of Hope gala in Edwardsville will take place on Thursday

EDWARDSVILLE – The African Vision of Hope, a non-profit organization, will hold its 16th annual gala at The Leclaire Room, 600 Troy Road, Edwardsville at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 22.

In October 1998, a group of young men called “the Zambian Acapella Boys” were brought to the United States by an American organization. They were there to sing and raise funds for their education. The Zambian Boys came to the church of Bob and Judi Bertels, who had the privilege of hosting some of the singers at their home for the weekend. The men were young and did not know America, our culture, our customs, our laws and our language.

The organization that brought them to the United States has had them perform all over the country while earning large sums of money. However, the boys and their families returning to Zambia never received the money or education they were promised and immigration stepped in to stop what turned out to be trafficking. human being. From there, a ripple effect began.
