Westmoreland Events: Poker Race, Purse Bingo, Meetings

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at [email protected] or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a full address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each advertisement is printed once; there are no fees.

Fundraisers

• Herminie Center for Active Adults, 101 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, is accepting table reservations for the indoor flea market scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August 19. Cost: $5 each. Table reservations: 724-446-3282.

• The Lincoln Heights Civic Association will be hosting bingo from 1 to 3 pm on August 18 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular matches and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quick shots. The payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• A denim and diamond handbag bingo will start at 1pm on August 20 at Greensburg Hose Company No. 1, 6 McLaughlin Drive, Hempfield. • 29e The annual Labor Day Poker Run to benefit the Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter of the Great Allegheny Passage will begin in the Arthur H. King area of ​​the passage in West Newton, rain or shine. This is a non-competitive event that will include a 12-mile level bike ride and a 20-mile endurance bike ride, and a four-mile walk, jog or wheelchair ride. Participants walk or ride at their own pace and take a playing card from checkpoints along the way to form a poker hand. At the end, each hand is counted and the person with the best hand in each category receives a prize. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the ride begins at 8:30 a.m. Cost: $25, children $10. • The Jeannette Business Association and Elliott Group will be sponsoring a concert from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Elliott Group Amphitheatre. The featured group will be Gary Pratt with Katie Szallar. Bring a lawn chair. Food trucks and a beer garden will be set up on the 400 and 500 blocks of Clay Avenue and South Fifth Street. Volunteers

• The Blackburn Center in Greensburg will be offering weekly online training classes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. twice a week starting September 12 for anyone interested in volunteering their time to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and other crimes. Volunteers answer the helpline 24 hours a day and provide options, information and referrals. Hours are flexible and volunteers can work from home.
